Taking a break from fashion week calorie-counting, I headed over to the Columbus Ave. Shake Shack last night for some much-needed sustenance and a private party for Mark “the Cobrasnake” Hunter’s collaboration with VANS and Parisian concept boutique Colette. The famed burger joint was dressed to look like a children’s birthday party, complete with coloring-contest place mats and scratch-and-sniff stickers, and attendees included Cobrasnake sidekick Jonny Makeup as well as photographer Todd Selby and director Philip Andelman, who is married to Colette’s creative director, Sarah Lerfel.

“I may be small, but I do like [me] some burgers,” Lerfel said over a plate of fries. “I like them simple. I’m a girl, so, I don’t like when they’re too messy and overflowing with grease.” On the other hand, Hunter likes his juiced up and stacked to the sky. “When I designed the pair [of shoes] with VANS for Colette, I had just had a dream about buns on my feet, hence the burger-as-shoes. I don’t know how it came about, but, I’ve always had a thing for big, greasy burgers, so, it was just right… you can see all the layers.” Along with the halved-burgers served to party-goers (fashion week portion control?) was a milkshake created by Mark himself (“the Cobrashake”), which consisted of chocolate, Nutella and raspberry. It went over so well with partygoers that employees were overheard considering adding it to the menu.

The collaborative VANS for Colette by the Cobrasnake arrive at Colette this March.

A Few Lessons Learned at Marc by Marc Jacobs F/W ‘12
1. If it looks like fur and feels like fur… it might, for once, NOT be fur.
2. Military is officially the trend for fall. Accordingly, wearing an officer’s hat to work is totally acceptable no matter your position.
3. Metallics look pretty damn cool on men. Especially when paired with earthy, muter-toned suiting. Truth.
4 You know who to blame when you see some downtown chick wearing a communion-style dress this Fall. Especially one in midnight blue velvet.
5. Belting your commander jacket or battalion bubble coat really high on your walmaist will NOT make you look like Bill Hader’s impression of Clint Eastwood.
6. Ponchos are awkward. Especially when plaid.
7. Designers are still putting people in club collars.
8. Men never seem to carry their bags the right way down the runway.
9. With this collection as proof, Elle Fanning is loving life right now.
10. Marc Jacobs is still on his kilt trip.

Catching up with Solange Knowles at the Refinery 29 party, she revealed her next studio album’s sound is inspired by my all-time favorite producers, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Read about it on Paper here and scroll down to view which Flyte Tyme productions I wouldn’t mind hearing her revamp.

A guide to where you can shake your shit this week
(in other words, where you can and cannot get in during #NYFW)
LIVE on Paper now.

There aren’t many 30-year-olds going into the fur market these days (the Olsens notwithstanding). Although the last century may have been the more ideal time to delve into such an old-world craft, you can still find risk-takers like Brandon Sun, a young designer daring enough to make his New York Fashion Week debut this season with a fur-centric collection. It’s fitting, though, because who better to take this risk than a kid handpicked by the legendary mink house, Blackglama? I speak with the fresh face about his first solo show, fur politics and dressing Miss Jackson for Paper here.
